Approved a few months ago by the state, it aims to promote sustainable, healthy and quality food through more diversified agriculture or the creation of an original municipal culinary school. The main theme of this mandate is that the city clearly demonstrates in its PAT its goal of creating “sustainable, diversified and quality” agriculture in its territory. The main idea is to open up new sectors and create a development model that meets the expectations of farmers and consumers.

With a partnership approach involving residents, producers and consumers, the Chamber of Agriculture, the National Park, SAFER, the Rectorate, CCAS or ARS, the municipality strives for sustainable, healthy food and quality. For this, six main areas were rejected: the creation of a food basket for all aimed at the development and revitalization of 3 common gardens with user education, the expansion of food heritage (planting 150 breadfruit within 3 years, the re-commissioning of the baking oven), the development of new marketing methods (short-circuiting, farmers’ market), food education through the creation of “taste classes”, an increase in the share of local products and the opening of a municipal culinary school.

MOBILE KITCHEN
The plan also aims to combat food waste by raising awareness among school cafeterias and the general public, and sometimes through ingenious actions such as setting up a mobile kitchen to promote food heritage and educate the public on how to use leftovers. The aim is to promote the parallel inclusion of young farmers in agro-ecological projects (commercial horticulture and mixed crops), in particular by purchasing 176 hectares of land in the Domaine de la Paix sector, in the municipality of Hauts de the to support the diversification of the food supply by supporting initiatives combining quality production, improving food heritage and developing agro-tourism activities, and to encourage the local supply of school canteens and the elderly or disabled. The goal is also to develop short circuits, in particular with the opening of a store of local producers by the end of the year. Written for the period 2021-2024 under the National Food Program (PNA) call for proposals, the project receives financial support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food through DAAF and ADEME up to 142,000 euros to finance the recruitment of a coordinator and 176,000 euros to finance activities.

> Breadfruit, mocha beef…we diversify
The main axis of this mandate and the basis of PAT, where is the commune’s agricultural diversification project, almost two years after the election of Zhannik Atchapa? Two diagnoses (agricultural and food) are being developed to better clarify orientations and then prioritize them. In order to develop the breadfruit sector, two farmers have already agreed to establish orchards next to their farms. Thirty plans are in the process of being acquired from label nout péi, a PAT partner. Discussions have also been initiated with other sector development partners. A group of partners was formed to program and organize the diversity and forecasting of the farm’s profitability. Inside are the University, AD2R, CIRAD and Qualitropic. In order to resume the production of moka beef, work continues on the farm project. The project leader is supported in his efforts by CIRAD, Qualitropic and the city. The quality of his cattle is now recognized by CIRAD. The next step will be the development of the technical procedure for the route and the search for funding.

> Shared garden of 2800 m2
After the creation of the first garden in the fairgrounds provided by Secours Catholique, in particular for growing vegetables which are then distributed to those in need, a second garden will see the light of day on a 2,800 m2 plot located at the back. residences for the elderly Maloja, in the city center. The godfather of the garden, where it is planned to collect rainwater for irrigation of crops, will be a farmer. To care for him, 30 volunteers are being recruited among the residents (the elderly, the disadvantaged community). They will primarily benefit from training on environmentally friendly farming methods and practices. The main idea behind this action is to ensure quality, diversify and curb food insecurity.

> 176 ha for agroforestry
An act for the acquisition by the City Hall of 176 hectares of land in the Domaine de la Paix is ​​in the process of being signed. The transportation will be carried out by SAFER for a period of 3 years. Currently classified as N in PLU with areas in EBC (classified woodland), the land will be subject to potential exploration to identify exploitable areas. Applications will then be opened for project managers in the field of agroforestry or outdoor activities.
